Etosha National Park – Essential Guide

Etosha National Park is one of the greatest natural gems of Southern Africa. It is famous for its huge salt pan visible from space and for its exceptional concentration of wildlife around waterholes, offering regular and spectacular sightings.

🌦️ Best Seasons for Safari

Safaris are possible all year round.

The Big 4 of Etosha (Not the Big 5)

At Etosha, we speak about the Big 4, because the buffalo is NOT present:

Lion

Elephant

Rhinoceros

Leopard

These four iconic animals are frequently seen, especially around waterholes.

👉 Every safari is unique, but encounters are very frequent.

Park Gates & Main Access

Anderson Gate (Main Gate)

Von Lindequist Gate (Namutoni Gate)

King Nehale Gate

Anderson Gate is our main meeting point for most safaris.

Distances and size of the park

On the map, the roads may look close to each other, but Etosha National Park is huge. In addition, not all tracks and roads are visible on the maps, which can give a false impression of short distances.

Driving between waterholes and wildlife viewing areas can therefore take a lot of time.

This is why going on safari with a local guide is a real advantage: we know the best routes, the most active areas and the right times of the day to maximise your chances of seeing animals, without wasting time on the road.

Our guides also communicate with each other in real time to share important sightings and maximise your chances of seeing as many animals as possible during your safari.
